RATE vs AHC: rally outside court to defend charges of 'trespass' on Aboriginal land at The Block
Occupation of Aboriginal land is not trespass! Support the Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy in court
Redfern Aboriginal Tent Embassy (RATE) has led a successful occupation of the Redfern Block for more than a year, calling for affordable Aboriginal housing to be built on the site. RATE has been fighting off attempts by the Aboriginal Housing Corporation (AHC), led by Mick Mundine to develop the site with commercial projects, leaving the Aboriginal Housing for a later occasion if there is money and room.
Solidarity is needed at this important time of Redfern's fight! The Tent Embassy has been taken to court for trespass. The Supreme Court holds the principle of private property as sacred and has the legal power to decide who has the right to the land. The first Nations peoples of Redfern and their supporters, via RATE, are fighting for the right to control the land that belongs to them and the affordable housing promised when they acquired the land. On the other side the AHC, with Mundine and the developer Daicorp, are claiming that the lands belong to them and that they have the papers to prove it.
On Friday August 14th at 9.00 a.m we are calling on everyone to come to the Supreme Court, Philips st, Sydney. We need big numbers to tell the Court, Mundine, Deicorp and everyone, who the real owners of The Block are.
